The Mothling Set is a five-piece cosmetic outfit found around the Pillars of Creation in the Nomad Highlands, particularly the Vukah Cave Pillar. Collect the Hood, Robe, Gloves, Pants and Boots from separate chests. It is an appearance set: it does not provide combat armor or stat bonuses.
The useful starting point is the Bard's Clothes - Nomad Highlands journal trail. Pass through the Research Camp in one pillar, then follow the route toward the other pillar. Do not stop searching after opening one chest; each piece occupies a separate container.
Reach the Vukah Cave Pillar
The journal first directs you through the Research Camp inside the Pillars of Creation. Reach its exit, then follow the path leading toward the other pillar. This puts you in the area where the Mothling collection is concentrated.
Bring a digging tool for buried containers. Some pieces are reached on raised platforms or through cave passages, while at least the boots are described in a buried chest. You do not need to replace your combat equipment with this outfit to search for the remaining pieces.
Orient around the Pillars of Creation before entering the collection route.
Track the five pieces
Use the Engine Chambers and Vukah Cave Pillar as landmarks. The distances below are approximate references from the Mothling location listing, rather than exact world coordinates.

Follow the cave route without missing a chest
A 1.0 collection walkthrough describes this route through the Vukah Cave Pillar. Treat it as one collection order, not a requirement to obtain the pieces in sequence.
- Enter the cave and follow the left-hand path toward the robe's chest.
- From that area, turn back and descend toward the raised platform holding the hood's chest.
- Continue toward the bonfire. Search the small mound to its right for the buried boots chest.
- From the bonfire, take the southwest passage and check the slightly raised platform to the right for the gloves.
- Continue through the narrow passage toward the left and use the stairs to reach the pants chest on the raised platform.
If the next landmark does not match what you see, return to the bonfire or the last confirmed chest. The route contains changes in height; looking only along the cave floor can miss containers on platforms.
Check what is missing before leaving
Confirm all five item names: Mothling Hood, Mothling Robe, Mothling Gloves, Mothling Pants and Mothling Boots. The associated journal objective is to find every Mothling cosmetic item.
Keep the distinction between collection and protection clear. This set belongs in your cosmetic collection; choose combat equipment for its actual armor and effects separately. It is also unnecessary to open unrelated Nomad Highlands chests hoping for the complete outfit in one drop—the documented route uses individual piece locations.
