Orange-brown clay deposit in the terrain

Clay Locations and Mining

Quick Answer

Mine the orange clay deposits in Revelwood with a pickaxe. Identify the orange-brown deposit and check for Lumps of Clay in your inventory before gathering more for crafting.

Find clay deposits in Revelwood and mine them with a pickaxe to collect Lumps of Clay. Look for orange-brown, lumpy deposits rather than ordinary soil. Raw clay is mined; you do not need to make it in a Kiln.

The community wiki's Lump of Clay entry identifies Revelwood as the resource's biome. Use the deposit's appearance as your main field check, particularly when following older location guides.

Recognize the deposit before digging

Clay forms a reddish or orange-brown mass in the terrain. The uneven, clumped surface is a more useful clue than looking for a loose object to pick up. Approach the deposit, equip your pickaxe and mine the material itself.

Orange-brown lumpy clay deposit in the terrain
  1. Travel into Revelwood with a pickaxe and room for materials.
  2. Search exposed terrain and cliff faces for a distinct orange-brown deposit.
  3. Mine a small section and check the item pickup for Lump of Clay.
  4. Continue along the same deposit once you have confirmed the resource.

If your inventory fills with ordinary dirt instead, check that your strikes are hitting the colored deposit rather than the surrounding ground. Confirming the item name early avoids a long digging session in the wrong material.

Use older Diadwyn directions as a lead

A 2024 Polygon guide places clay northwest of Diadwyn, describing the settlement as north of the Springlands Ancient Spire and west of the Revelwood Ancient Spire. That is an older route reference, rather than a verified 1.0 coordinate.

If you are already exploring near Diadwyn, it is a useful area to inspect. If the old route or terrain does not match your world, search for the deposit appearance across Revelwood instead of relying on the exact cliff shown in the old map. There is no need to treat one photographed deposit as the only source of clay.

Decide what you need clay for

Clay supports construction, decorations and several crafting facilities. The current wiki lists these examples; the clay count alone is not the complete recipe.

Big Clay Vat, output 110Decoration Workbench5 Wood Logs, 3 Limestone

For bowls, the raw material is only one requirement: having clay does not replace the Kiln listed alongside the Decoration Workbench. The Big Clay Vat has a listed crafting time of 1 minute; the other examples above are listed as instant.

Clay stacks to 250. Use your target recipe to decide how much to collect before filling the rest of your inventory with other resources. Construction and decoration batches can consume clay across several separate recipes, so count the planned objects together.

Keep raw clay separate from finished building products

Lump of Clay is the mined ingredient. A finished bowl, vat or other building product is a different item, with its own station and additional materials. Finding a raw deposit therefore solves the gathering step, not every subsequent recipe unlock.

Older guides also describe clay as a route into Kilns and brick construction. For a current build, check the recipe shown by your crafter before gathering the rest of that older bill of materials; the reliable step here is mining the orange-brown deposit for the named raw item.
