Get a Shroud Core by defeating a suitable Shroud enemy, including the Fell Thunderbrute at the early Elixir Well, or craft one through the Alchemist using Shroud Spores and Shroud Liquid. For an early character seeking the first core, follow the Elixir Well objective and loot the defeated boss. For a larger supply, compare that combat route with crafting from materials you already collect.
Shroud Core, Shroud Spores, and Shroud Liquid are different items. Finding spores or liquid does not mean you have obtained a core, but those materials can contribute to the Alchemist route. Check the inventory item name and the recipe you want to complete before returning to base.
Choose between a direct drop and crafting
The best route depends on your current progress. A character already following the early Elixir Well quest has a clear combat objective. A character with the Alchemist at base and a stockpile of materials can avoid making a separate trip for every missing core.

| Route | What you need | Why you would choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Early Elixir Well boss | Access to the well and equipment for the Fell Thunderbrute fight | A direct route while progressing through the early objectives |
| Other suitable Shroud enemies | A reachable encounter you can defeat and loot | A chance to collect cores while exploring known locations |
| Alchemist crafting | The survivor and the recipe's required spores and liquid | A controllable way to convert collected materials into the item you need |
Do not assume every enemy inside the Shroud drops a core. Ordinary enemy loot can still be useful for the crafting route, but that is a different result from a direct core drop. Loot names matter when you are checking whether a run achieved its purpose.
Avoid choosing a route on the basis of a guaranteed-drop percentage. A successful drop in one encounter does not establish the rate for every enemy or version. Plan around the enemies and recipe you can actually access, and check the result after each trip.
Use the early Elixir Well for the first combat route
The early progression sends you toward an Elixir Well in the starting region. If the objective is available, use its map marker rather than wandering through unrelated Shroud pockets. The destination includes enemies along the approach and a boss farther inside, so prepare for more than simply picking an item up from the ground.
Before entering, equip a usable weapon, armor, and recovery items. Keep an eye on your Shroud time and remember the path out. Being able to reach the boss is only half the task; you still need to survive the encounter and leave with the loot.
Follow the descent through the well to the Fell Thunderbrute. Clear or avoid the surrounding enemies deliberately so they do not interfere with the fight. A ranged weapon can help you maintain distance, but it is still necessary to watch the boss and move away from incoming attacks.
After the fight, inspect the boss's loot and collect the core. Check the actual inventory result before leaving. The boss can also provide other items, and collecting a head or ordinary materials should not be mistaken for collecting the core itself.
The Shroud Root in the well is a separate object and progression task. Do not assume cutting it is the source of the core. Finish the well's objective as needed, but identify the boss loot separately so you understand where the item came from.
Make the trip safe enough to finish
Enter with enough time to fight, loot, and return. A route that barely reaches the boss before the timer expires is unreliable for a character still learning the encounter. If you are already low on time or recovery, leave and prepare another attempt rather than committing to a fight you cannot finish safely.
Keep the boss visible and preserve space to retreat. Do not spend the entire fight attacking without watching its windup. If a wand or bow gives you a comfortable distance, use that advantage while moving deliberately instead of backing blindly into another group of enemies.
Loot promptly once the area is safe, then confirm the item before getting distracted by side passages. If your immediate goal was one core for a base recipe, completing that goal may be more useful than continuing until your inventory or survival resources are exhausted.
Repeat a known encounter only when it is actually available again in your current world. Older advice about leaving and rejoining a session should not be treated as a guaranteed current reset method. If an enemy has not returned, use another normal activity or the crafting route instead of assuming the world is broken.
Craft Shroud Cores with the Alchemist
Recruit and place the Alchemist at your base, then inspect the available crafting list. The core recipe uses Shroud Spores and Shroud Liquid. A demonstrated recipe requires 10 Shroud Spores and 10 Shroud Liquid for one Shroud Core; confirm the requirement shown in your current crafting screen before gathering a large batch.
Crafting gives you a predictable target for a gathering trip. Instead of searching only for an enemy that drops the finished item, collect the required ingredient types and convert them at base. This is especially practical when you already have part of the material requirement in storage or your inventory.
Keep the recipe open while checking your available materials. Similar names can make it easy to count the wrong stack. Shroud Wood, for example, should not be treated as a substitute for liquid or spores simply because all three names refer to the same hazardous region.
If the recipe is not visible, first confirm that the Alchemist is actually available and that you have checked the relevant crafting list. Do not assume a missing recipe proves that cores cannot be crafted. Survivor progression and discovering materials can affect the recipes available to a character, so inspect those conditions before planning another boss run.
Gather the two ingredients for different reasons
Shroud Spores come from suitable enemies in the Shroud. Loot the enemies you defeat rather than judging the run only by the number of cores dropped. Those ingredient drops can still move you toward the crafting requirement even when the finished item is absent.

Choose a route with enemies you can reliably defeat. More dangerous enemies are not automatically the better option for a character that spends most of the trip recovering or returning after death. A familiar area with a manageable route can be a better source of useful ingredients during progression.
Shroud Liquid is gathered from the appropriate mushroom-like growths in the Shroud. It is an ingredient collection task, rather than the same kind of enemy-loot task as spores. Check the item name from your first harvest to confirm that you have found the intended growth.

Collect liquid when it lies along a safe route instead of taking an unnecessary detour into deeper danger. If you already have enough liquid but lack spores, focus the next trip on enemies. Gathering many more of the ingredient you already own will not complete the recipe while its other requirement remains missing.
Calculate the shortfall before farming
Start with the recipe or upgrade that prompted the search. Count how many finished cores it asks for and subtract the cores already available to you. Then compare the missing amount with the Alchemist's current material requirement.
For the demonstrated 10-spore and 10-liquid recipe, two crafted cores require 20 of each ingredient and three require 30 of each. These are direct multiples of that recipe, not an additional gathering requirement. If your current game displays a different recipe, use its values instead.
Check what you already have before planning a full collection run. A few missing spores may be a smaller task than defeating another boss specifically for a core. Conversely, if you are already heading into an appropriate well, collecting the direct drop can be efficient without a separate ingredient expedition.
Craft only the amount you need when other recipes also compete for the materials. Keeping ingredients available can be useful while you are unlocking new options. The aim is to finish the blocked task, rather than convert every available stack just because the recipe is now visible.
Keep altar expansion separate from Flame progression
When a core is requested at an altar, read the exact action and requirement. Expanding a base's build area and strengthening the Flame's world-progression benefits are distinct decisions. Do not assume a core used for one altar action proves that it is required for every Flame level.
Before spending the item, confirm that the action produces the result you wanted. If the goal is more room for building, inspect the base-expansion option. If the goal is access through more dangerous Shroud, inspect the Flame-strengthening requirements. Farming the right item for the wrong menu can leave the original problem unresolved.
The same check applies to crafted storage and other recipes. Use the displayed ingredients for the exact item you intend to make. A core you reserve for one project is not available for another once it has been spent, so prioritize whichever action is currently blocking your progress.
Troubleshoot a run that produced no core
If the first boss did not leave the item you expected, inspect the loot and inventory carefully before deciding what to repeat. Confirm that you defeated the intended enemy and collected its items. A different enemy at the same location is not necessarily an equivalent source.
If you are collecting spores but no cores, consider the crafting route. That outcome can still be useful if the Alchemist is available and liquid is easy for you to gather. If you have the ingredients but cannot craft, return to the survivor and recipe checks rather than repeatedly farming the same completed requirement.
If a suggested farming location is inaccessible or too dangerous, stay with an earlier route you can finish. There is no need to force a later spectral-enemy area just to obtain an item that also has a crafting path. Verify the finished Shroud Core in your inventory, return to the intended recipe, and spend it on the specific upgrade or item that started the search.
